Use case · Monero node
How big the Monero blockchain is pruned and full, which plan holds each, how to configure monerod, and how to pay for it in XMR.
Quick answer
What VPS do I need to run a Monero node?
To run a Monero node you need a VPS with 4 GB of RAM or more, an SSD, and room for the blockchain: about 105 GiB pruned or 265 GiB full, per the Monero docs (5 October 2026). At OffshoreKVM, KVM 8 ($13.50 for 30 days, 160 GB NVMe) runs a pruned node. KVM 16 ($20.62) holds a full one. No KYC, pay in crypto.
| Full blockchain | About 265 GiB (285 GB), as of 5 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Pruned blockchain | About 105 GiB (113 GB) |
| Free disk the docs recommend | 662.5 GiB or more for a full node, 262.5 GiB or more for a pruned node |
| RAM | 4 GB or more recommended, on SSD storage |
| Ports | 18080 for peers (P2P), 18089 for restricted RPC (wallets) |
| Pruning | Keeps 1/8 of the prunable signature data and saves about 2/3 of the space |
| OffshoreKVM plans that fit | KVM 8 for a pruned node, KVM 16 for a pruned node with headroom or a full node |
| Monero payments | Accepted at OffshoreKVM since 3 November 2026: verified after 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes |
| Mining | Not allowed on any OffshoreKVM VPS |
The Monero blockchain took about 265 GiB as a full node and 105 GiB pruned on 5 October 2026, per the Monero documentation. That is about 285 GB and 113 GB in the decimal units that disk sizes use.
A pruned Monero node keeps the full transaction history but only 1/8 of the prunable signature data, which saves about two thirds of the disk. With sync-pruned-blocks=1, the node downloads blocks already pruned, so the first sync moves less data.
KVM 8 is the smallest plan for a pruned node, and KVM 16 is the only plan that holds a full node. KVM 4 has the 4 GB of RAM the docs recommend, but its 80 GB disk is smaller than the 113 GB pruned chain.
| Plan | Resources | Pruned node (113 GB) | Full node (285 GB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| KVM 4 ($8.25) | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, 8 TB traffic | No: disk too small | ✗ |
| KVM 8 ($13.50) | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe, 12 TB traffic | Yes, with under 50 GB left for the OS and growth | ✗ |
| KVM 16 ($20.62) | 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 320 GB NVMe, 20 TB traffic | Yes, above the docs' 262.5 GiB (282 GB) advice | Yes today, with about 30 GB to spare after the OS |
1 GiB = 1.074 GB. For a full node the docs advise 662.5 GiB (711 GB) of free space; no OffshoreKVM plan meets that, so a full node on KVM 16 needs watching as the chain grows.
For a Monero node on a VPS, disk size decides the plan before CPU or RAM does. Pick KVM 16 if you want to grow from pruned to full later, or to keep a pruned node for years without resizing.
Several no-KYC hosts accept Monero and sell plans with enough disk for a node. According to OffshoreKVM's check of 29 October 2026, 24 of 36 active offshore VPS hosts accept Monero. OffshoreKVM was not counted in that check, but it has taken Monero since 3 November 2026, and its KVM 8 is the cheapest plan below with 160 GB or more.

Monthly prices read on each host's pages on 29 October 2026; 1 EUR = 1.1130 USD (ECB, 29 October 2026). None of these hosts asks for ID at signup. Privex sells 1,300 GB on a hard disk for $40.00, but the Monero docs recommend SSD storage. OffshoreKVM publishes this table.

Yes. OffshoreKVM has accepted Monero since 3 November 2026: we take BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, XMR, with no KYC and no ID. Send the exact amount to our Monero address; the payment is verified after 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes. The other hosts in the table above take it too. The guide on how to buy a VPS with Monero walks through the steps. Every coin and network is compared in which offshore VPS providers accept crypto.
No. Cryptocurrency mining is not allowed on any OffshoreKVM VPS, and that includes Monero. A node and a miner are different programs: monerod syncs and serves the blockchain, and mining stays off unless you start it. Keep it off on a OffshoreKVM VPS. The page on running a Bitcoin or Lightning node on a VPS covers the other common node.

Yes. A full node needs about 265 GiB of SSD space today and 4 GB of RAM or more. On OffshoreKVM, only KVM 16, with 320 GB, holds it, with about 30 GB to spare after the OS, as of 5 October 2026.
For your own wallet, yes: it keeps the full transaction history and answers your wallet like a full node. It contributes less to the network, because it stores only part of the old signature data.
The Monero docs recommend 4 GB or more. KVM 8, the smallest OffshoreKVM plan with enough disk for a pruned node, has 8 GB.
Yes. Point your wallet at the VPS address on port 18089, the restricted RPC port. Your wallet then queries your own node instead of a public one.
A person creates your VPS once your payment is confirmed, and it is ready minutes later, never more than one hour after that confirmation; your dashboard shows the status, then the IP address once the VPS is running. Start monerod as soon as you can log in, because the first sync takes the longest.
